ABOUT ME

Hi! I am a 24-year-old amateur photographer, in my third year at London South Bank University studying Fashion Promotion with Marketing. My passion for photography started in my first year of university, when participating in a group project creating a short 2-minute video for the renowned sustainable brand Mayamiko, a fashion brand based in Ghana, worn by celebrities such as Meghan Markle and Emma Watson. The aim of this project was to create an editorial video campaign to promote their Spring Summer 2019 collection while expanding their target consumer demographic. Using the concept of 'urban jungle' my team and I were targeting millennials aged 16-23 as we noticed a gap in the market which Mayamiko would benefit from. I was awarded 75% for this project.

Photography has also become a beloved hobby of mine; I regularly take my camera with me when travelling. My content consists of nature shots, architecture, and posed or candid images of people (mostly of friends). Nature to me is beautiful and enjoy immersing myself in it; I take great pleasure spending hours taking many pictures of it in its raw and beautiful form. Similarly, the behaviours and body language of humans fascinates me; there is a certain charm to an image that is completely untamed and genuine or an image that oozes confidence and power through a posed position. Lastly, architecture is a secret love of mine; the most desirable buildings are often where you least expect to see them, each building has its own unique character which is an art I try to capture.

Aside from photography, I have multiple skills that have been acquired from different experiences. My first real exposure to fashion in a live setting was my time as a volunteer at Fashion Scout 2018, an event showcasing up and coming or lower key artists with the likes of Pam Hogg presenting their collections. For this experience I was a backstage member and spent my time helping organise and dress the models before and during the show. I also was given the opportunity, albeit it briefly, to assist front of house staff in helping the guests to their seats. This has given me deep knowledge into fashion events, how they are organised and what makes them successful. More recently, I was given the great opportunity to study at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada for an exchange semester, where I gained in depth knowledge of sustainability, its current impact on the industry and its potential for the future in fashion. Additionally, through this exchange I was given insight to basic anthropology, specifically regarding dress in cultural contexts, the meaning behind ‘traditional’ and the definition of ‘cultural appropriation’.

As I am not yet finished my university journey, I am looking forward to gaining more skills and participating in many more experiences to help me be the best version of myself. Thanks for reading!
